- Pro-Wrestling FURY has released the lineups for its 2009 F-MAX Summit tournament. On paper, it appears to be the strongest tournament to date.
The tournament will open up on 11/13 in Korakuen Hall, presenting many unique match-ups. However, all eyes are sure to be on 11/18 in Aichi, as the rivalry between "Mr. 300%" Kazuma Fujita and Keiji Takano is renewed! The two will face off in their first singles match since September 21, 2007.
The tournament will follow traditional round robin rules. Each win will earn two points. If two wrestlers go to the alloted 30-minute time limit, the match will end in a draw, with both wrestlers earning one point. Any other result including a loss, double ring out, double dq, etc will result in no points. The winner and runner-up of each block will advance to the semi finals on 11/25.
The winner of the F-MAX Summit will receive a check for ¥10,000,000 (Roughly 100,000 USD). If the winner of the tournament is not the F-MAX Unified Heavyweight Champion himself, the winner will earn himself a chance at the championship as well. Traditionally, the odds are against the F-MAX Unified Heavyweight Champion. Last year however, Tetsuhisa NAKAI became the first man in history to win the F-MAX Summit tournament while simultaneously holding the F-MAX Unified Heavyweight title.
In addition to the tournament itself, the series will see two title matches. First, as a result of the controversial finish of 10/25's F-MAX Jr. Heavyweight title match, FURY has announced that Jet Jaguar would be given an immediate rematch, and will challenge Yoshihiro Shimoda for the title on 11/25. When informed, Shimoda gave his 100% support to the idea, and condemned ATSUKA For ruining what could have been a great title match. He said that while he possesses the physical title, he does not consider himself to be the champion. However, he intends to remedy this by beating Jaguar clean in their rematch. Jaguar told Yahoo! Sports that while he was upset that his reign as champion ended so quickly, he would worked hard to win it back. While the two prepare for their 11/25 match, the two will attempt to exact revenge against the man who spoiled their 10/25 bout as they face ATSUKA in tag bouts on 11/16 in Hokkaido, 11/18 in Aichi, and 11/24 in Osaka.
In addition, Kotaro Ota will make his V2 defense of Nansei Nihon Pro-Wrestling's All Pacific Jr. Heavyweight title, facing Nansei's own Wataru Yamada on 11/24 in Osaka. As a prelude, Ota and Yamada will face off in a series of "FURY vs. NANSEI" tag matches, beginning on 11/15 in Miyagi as Ota and Fumihiko Shirai face Yamada and his fellow HOT LIMIT partner Keisuke Rongai. The sides will collide again in a huge eight-man tag match on 11/19 in Kyoto as Ota and Shirai team with NEW FORCE's Etsuya Kawachi and Hidaka Kamon to face HOT LIMIT, along with Nansei Ace GALLEON (who will be returning from injury) and FALCON Hori!
