[6/13/2009] FURY News & Notes

- Backstage following last night's event, many of the wrestlers gathered to celebrate Otsuo Kayusa becoming the F-MAX Unified Heavyweight champion. As he entered the locker room to speak with reporters, he was ambushed by a flowing shower of beer at the hands of Kenichiro Hujikawa, Tetsuhisa NAKAI, and Hiroaki Nakata. Kayusa told reporters that being a singles champion was still surreal feeling, as he had never before challenging for a singles title. However, Kayusa said that he would use the strength and support of his friends to motivate him in the singles reign, and promised a long run as the F-MAX Unified Heavyweight Champion...

However, Kayusa acknowledged the singles field in FURY, calling it the most competitive division in all of Japan. He said that he was already growing eager to defend his newly won title, and told President Nishida he wanted to make his first defense a little over a month from now on 7/17, back at Korakuen Hall! President Nishida happily accepted Kayusa's request, making the title match official for 7/17. Kayusa said that he would wait for a challenger to emerge in the coming weeks.

- Normally by this time every year, the participants for July's J1-MAX League tournament would have been announced. However, as President Nishida explained following yesterday's event, the company is having a problem this year selecting participants. Not only that however, but the company has received requests from outside wrestlers to take part of the annual July spectacular. Nishida apologized for the delay, but said that they have come up with a plan of action, as the company will hold a random lottery drawing on 6/17 in Osaka to determine the twelve participants in the two-block tournament. President Nishida stated that the lottery would be made up of both FURY wrestlers, and outside wrestlers who have petitioned to be included.
