[7/04/2009] FURY News & Notes

- One day before FURY's seventh annual J1-MAX League kicks off, all twelve participants met with reporters from inside Tokyo's Fighting Café Colosseo to give their final thoughts on the tournament.

Shin Kaiju: "I am the F-MAX Jr. Heavyweight champion... This is the third time I've competed in this tournament. However, this is the first time I've taken this tournament seriously. I will crush everybody that stands in my way, and prove that I am Japan's strongest Junior Heavyweight!"

Hayato Saigo: "I am Hayato Saigo, from Pro-Wrestling CRIMSON. I'm thankful to be given this opportunity to compete in the J1-MAX tournament. I have admired the caliber of FURY's Junior Heavyweights for years, and am excited to get the chance to face off against them... However, my goal is to prove that CRIMSON has the better Junior Heavyweights. So while I respect everybody, my aim is to expose their inferiority."

Etsuya Kawachi: "I am your teacher, Etsuya Kawachi! Being a teacher, I have studied my opponent's strengths and weaknesses, and have devised a winning strategy! As a matter of fact, I was up all night analyzing dvds of my opponents!"

Hidaka Kamon: "...Eh? You were reading manga until four last night!"

Etsuya Kawachi: "...I WAS READING SUN TZU'S ART OF WAR."

Hidaka Kamon: "IT HAD ILLUSTRATIONS! I even think I saw a panty shot!"

Etsuya Kawachi: "...No comment."

Hidaka Kamon: "Hmm... suppose I should talk now... I will give my best for the fans in this tournament. With every year I feel stronger and stronger. This year, I feel confident that I have what it takes to win the tournament!"

ATSUKA: "This is my sixth year in this tournament. I am ashamed to admit this, but I have yet to win the tournament. While I won't say anything drastic like 'I'm going to retire if I lose,' I will say that I will have to make some changes for myself if I cannot win. That said, I am going to put forth my best effort. I will be unsealing the El Nudo Lagunero, which I learned several years ago in Mexico. The move helped me get to the finals of the 2003 BURNING REVOLUTION tournament. I've used it sparingly since, but I know it is the secret to winning."

Yoshihiro Shimoda: "Good evening, everyone. I am one of only three people to have participated in every J1-MAX tournament. Every year I do my best... Though admittedly, last year was not my best performance. My aim is to redeem myself, and become the first wrestler to win the tournament twice."

RYUJI: "I'm not gonna spout bullshit like everybody else here. I don't care about winning. I'm already a champion, so why should I worry about this stupid tournament? Instead, my aim is to have fun at the expense of my opponent..."

Kyoto Okazaki: "Well, my aim is also to have fun... However, my goal is to win. With RYUJI's help, Kaiju and I will dominate this tournament and go unbeaten, before giving the fans an all UPRISER'Z final. Then, we will truly decide who the strongest Junior Heavyweight in Japan is. Look forward to it!"

Jin Hiroto: "My name is Jin Hiroto. I participated in the very first tournament in 2003, though an injury took me out of the second round... This year, my goal is to display a "FIGHTING SYMPHANY" for my opponents to prove that I am the strongest. I'm eager to meet some familiar faces in the ring and show them that they're still kids."

Shigeru Iwasaki: "Obviously I'm echoing the words of everybody when I say my goal is to win. Regardless, that is the truth. The last year has been a troublesome one for me, with my war against Iwata and UPRISER'Z. For this month however, I will hold off on it to focus on this tournament. After I win, I will work towards ending Iwata once and for all."

Jet Jaguar: "...This is my second year in the J1-MAX tournament. Last year was an incredible learning experience for me, and I feel it will guide me to the championship this year. However, I must admit... I was disappointed in the fact that Kaiju and I were not matched up in the same block, as I wanted to prove myself in beating him in a singles match after he robbed me of my mask last month. While I know this comes at the expense of my comrades, my hope is that Kaiju advances to the finals so that I can meet him, and pay him back..."

Kotaro Ota: "I am the defending champion, Kotaro Ota... Last year was an incredible moment for me, but even I have to admit that in recent weeks, I've failed to live up to the person that captured the tournament last year. Regardless, I will give it everything I have to retain my title."
