- On the eve of FURY's trip to the United States, the company held a press conference in Tokyo to announce the company's new partnership with Broadband Television provider NHKComm in a deal that will add Pro-Wrestling FURY's "FURYnet" Internet service to NHKComm's line up of On-Demand television channels.
NHKComm, established in 2006, has been one of the leading pioneers in broadband television technology, bringing broadband television to 250,000 homes in Japan. Today, their service now reaches over 500,000 subscribers across Japan.
FURYnet was established in 2005, originally apart of Nifty.com's Internet television service, but has since broken off into its own entity entirely. The service has gained wide acclaim among fans across Japan, as it includes blogs and communities for fans, along with archived video content, including matches and shows.
As apart of the deal, FURY will be supplying all of the video content it currently offers on the online service, but will also include over 15 original programs each month made up of old shows, and original non-wrestling content.
Nobuaki Kikuchi of NHKComm commented on the deal, saying, "we are proud to align ourselves with Pro-Wrestling FURY. We respect their vision outside of the wrestling ring, and have watched their service grow since 2005. We are positive that both companies will grow mutually together in the coming years. We look forward to this journey."
FURY President Hiroshi Nishida commented, saying, "With technology quickly evolving, it is essential that we, as a company, try to stay ahead of the curve. Most experts agree that broadband television is the future, and we applaud NHKComm for spear heading this movement, and are extremely proud to be apart of it."
The FURYnet service will start up on NHKComm's service effective 4/01.
- Elsewhere, as apart of a party celebrating the 30th anniversary of Weekly Jump's "Kinnikuman" manga, FURY's own Kinniku Kamen Nisei appeared for a photo op with the men who created the Kinnikuman concept, Yudetamago. Nisei had fans and reporters near tears early on, as he talked about the pride he felt in Yudetamago writing a chronological history of his ancestry... Not knowing how to really respond, one-half of Yudetamago, Takashi Shimoda thanked Nisei for the words...
Nisei also spoke about his upcoming trip overseas, where he will "reignite" the famous rivalries his ancestors started years ago against "Terryman Nisei," "Prince Kamehame Nisei" and "Ramenman Nisei." Nisei asked Yudetamago if they played on following him, so that they could continue writing the "Historical account of Kinnikuman..." Both couldn't hold back their laughter, before saying they would be unable to...
Nisei spoke on his three upcoming opponents, noting he had watched "tapes" of their "ancestors" matches, obviously referencing the original Kinnikuman anime that aired from 1983 to 1986. He noted his confidence in beating his first two opponents, Terryman Nisei and Prince Kamehame Nisei, but said he was unsure how to approach Ramenman Nisei, noting that the original Ramenman had once turned Brockenman into SOUP, and ATE HIM. However, Nisei laughed it off, noting that he knows that didn't really happen... Shimoda then interrupted, noting that was actually changed from the original account, as Ramenman actually tore Brockenman IN HALF with his deadly Camel Clutch. Nisei's expression froze for a minute, before comically BURSTING into tears and running off the stage screaming, "I WON'T DO IT! I WON'T DO IT!" However, a woman in the crowd screamed, "KINNIKU-SAN! PLEASE DO IT!" prompting Nisei to calmly walk back out onto the stage, yelling, "OKAY! I'LL DO IT!"
Towards the end, Yudetamago thanked Nisei, and Pro-Wrestling FURY for bringing their creation to life, and looked forward to following his journey in the FURY ring.
